Symbol of the Cultural Foundation
Everybody recognizes that culture is necessary as we draw parallels between ourselves and what we find in culture and art. Everybody knows that without culture our community life would wither and be deprived. Culture and art have a difficult position in the daily battle of competing interests with only few people feeling responsible.
To close this gap, the savings bank of Stormarn (then called “Sparkasse Stormarn”, since 2006 called “Sparkasse Holstein”) took the initiative, and in 1983 it established a cultural foundation, the “Kulturstiftung” of Sparkasse Stormarn (since 2006 called “Kulturstiftung Stormarn der Sparkasse Holstein”, since 2008 called “Sparkassen-Stiftung Stormarn”), a non-profit-making foundation. The foundation supports art and culture, local history, nature conservation, youth work and sports. Its Board and Committees of Experts decide which projects and initiative will be fostered.
Since its establishment the Cultural Foundation of the Sparkasse Stormarn has made remarkable achievements benefitting the cultural life in the district: Through its work the foundation has made contemporary art accessible to the general public, the protection of a conservation-worthy landscape was ensured, and many initiatives could be realized only thanks to the financial support of the foundation.
In the future, the promotion of culture and art will continue to be a major and exciting challenge for the Cultural Foundation of Stormarn.
